Ok i just bought a Eclipse GST spyder. Its a convertable. Has anybody has experiance with subs in convertables. Does it sound the same or is it alot quiter both with top up and down. Please help??

verts **** for car audio but it will be pretty cool to be cruzing in a turbo eclipse with the top down and a lil bump in the trunk.

anything is going to be quieter with the top down. there is a lot more noise for the speakers to compete with.

You don't get the normal cabin gain from the enclosed space of the car AND you have to compete with a lot of wind noise. Cone area will be your best friend as well as a good bit of power on the front stage. 2 12s would probably be in order.

convertible eclipses have 0 trunk. I know becuse one of my good friends has one. The most box you are gonna get in there is 2.5 cubes at the most. If you are a "bass head" im sorry dude you picked the wrong car.

x2 on the last might want to even look into a bass cannon and scratch the box...

Had a friend with a spyder did that and put some mids in the seat and comps up front...sounded like a stock infinity system at best but was better then what it came with...sadly that car 2 weeks later due to either driver error or a tree moveing into the path of the car decided to have a lil front end hugging action....

hmmm.. the top down thing made me kinda start to wonder though.. wouldnt it be easier to have good SQ in an car w/ the top down? lose all the cabin gains (good thing i would say).. you still have a few reflective surfaces(still bad).. but overall wouldnt it be a little easier to achieve good sq?

definately gonna be lacking in subbass though.. might have to think of something creative..

Without cabin gain low end output will suffer. Converts are horrible for any audio install. Be it SQ or SPL.

yeah im sure all output will suffer.. but that can be fixed... that wasnt really what i meant
