Cone area calculator

Audioholic are you honestly agreeing with him now?
Or just want the arguing to stop

fvck i shouldve just used imageshack...1 sec...

TBH, Im tired. lol Its all good, we are all here to learn.

the conversation already got civil... you can leave
no you can shut the **** up and not be a dumb ***... there is already enough stupid around here without you....

please, kill yourself....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

UGHH thats what me and audioholic were talking about, use a drawing with much less linear movement
once the excursion exceeds the height of the cone itself then YES they are equal, but the point was that the excursion will rarely ever exceed the height of the cone, in which case the cone displaces more area

btw how do you like those MJ's sealed?

im stuck with my truck right now, i want to go 3 way active up front thats a def, but im debating on 2 12's ported (hence why i asked about the SE's) or i really want to do 2 MJ's sealed but i've heard good and bad things about their output and low end response
The crap of how excursion vs cone depth has anything to do with it is complete bullshit...tell me...how does that even MAKE SENSE? Its clearly just an excuse you are using to explain why it is just more obvious that I am right when the picture shows a huge cone excursion...in terms of physics and measurements, it is completely irrelevant, it only changes the perception.

The two sealed MJ's are great, the way I have mine, I get VERY exaggerated response below ~35hz, in fact, I faced them in towards the cabin yesterday, sealed em off from the trunk ~80%, and left the trunk open so there was no backwave cancellation going on, and I had nowhere near the output in the 20-30hz range that i did with them facing back. I'd guess I was literally getting a good 3-5db boost below 30-35hz

output wise though...they're louder than you might expect. thats all i can say...never got em metered and I took em out today to start my next install with them in which I'll be porting them

they sound great though, and sealed, they don't roll off very noticeably in output until >80hz (at least in my application)

Rashaddd, is that Inventor? I need to reinstall one of my CAD programs. Your illustration is pretty telling. I wish I could have made it. This MS paint crap is for the birds. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

lol same...

spencer, do you see now?

When something is moving linearly, ONLY the surface area directly perpendicular to its movement is creating effective displacement, the depth of the cone is irrelevent

nah its just sketchup lol

yea...its basically an illusion, because even looking at those pictures without seeing the measurement of the area, it still seems as though the cone with depth has more displacement, its just not true if you actually analyze it and think about it a little harder

i figured out why your right and im wrong and yes im admitting i was wrong,

when you lay them flat like that the width of the flat one is equal to excursion, but with the coned one... the actual width of the line that i was laying flat in my mind is not 1 inch, its less because the 1 inch is on an angle make sense, well still doesnt make sense but i see it, i pulled up sketchup and did it myself as well.

how do you think the MJs would do in a truck, i cant exactly cut off that backwave lol and are you saying they sounded better sealed off from the trunk, or facing backwards towards the tag.

haha alright...no hard feelings. Like i just said, its just a trick of the mind, tbh, at first when you discredited audioholics drawing I began to think you were right, but then I just thought about it a little more and...its just an illusion

They sounded more accurate facing the cabin for obvious reasons (obviously less distortion by the time it reaches my ear), but in terms of how smoothly and how linear their output was, definitely much better facing the rear, although I think that's just because of my exact circumstances...immacomputer knows a lot about how and why it would happen the way it did in my situation, and he explained it pretty well, and was correct according to what happened when I faced them into the cabin instead.

I'd say just face them up in a truck

Sry OP for not takin this thread where you wanted it to go...but meh...its CA.com, happens to all of us //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i can't face them up... standard cab lol thats part of the addiction, i've only seen 2 18's done ONCE in a standard cab truck with no blow threw and they were ed ov19's, in boxes that were too small. i've got roughly 7cubes to work with under the window line, but only 10inches of depth. lol makes life tough

hahahaha best post this whole thread
I'm glad you figured it out. If I have learned anything on this forum, audioholic (and a few other members on here) know their shit and if they tell you you are wrong, you most likely are. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
