If they still claim you, you can't write anything off.

Look into Dell's Precision line of laptops. They are excellent machines and are basically beefed up versions of the XPS series. They all come with excellent graphics cards and a 3 year accidental warranty. As a student, that could come in handy.

Don't buy from Dell though, they're 1/2 price on ebay and the warranty is fully transferable.

I couldn't be happier with my Precision M90.

Mind if I ask how much you're planning on spending?

Dude you will get sick of carrying a heavy *** 15.4" and end up not bringing it to class after the first week.

Get a 12" or 13".

Further the battery life on a bigger screen is worse and you wont want to run back to your dorm for a recharge between classes.

i just lookd and the 13" is right around the same price just has a 128mb video card as opposed to the 256mb video card on the one i have ordered....ill look into it some more and see, ive got 2 days to decide.

the m1313 can also be had with a LED screen.

Not sure about the 15"... but i do know you will hate to carry it when you add the rest of your shit like books to your bag.

Video memory doesn't really matter much unless you've got an ultra high-end card (which you won't in a laptop) or you do very complex 3D design work (which you probably wouldn't do on a laptop, anyways).
128 MB is perfectly adequate for anything up to the 8500 GT/HD 2600 and up to 1280x800 resolution.

Though vista is great for the American market, it's flashy, expensive, and a slow under preforming hog; just like it's American demographic.
