So, as some of you may have noticed I'm new to the fourms but not to car stereo. What some of you may not have known is I am actualy a pretty big computer nerd as well. What does all this have to do with Enclosures you ask? Well, I cleaned out my shed the other day and realized I have had a old banpass box I made for a friend sitting in there from 3 years ago. Now I made this entirley out of wood, so that the subs were sealed inside, and no way of knowing what condition they were in. Now i said to myself, we got some rats in here, its over 120 in the summers, theres now way there good, so I take my screw driver out, take all the screws out of the top plate and start prying at it with a crowbar. Thats when I realize that the woodglue + liquid nailed edge seams wernt giving. SO I took a hammer and asserted myself in a ring on the top plate and peeled it off, to discover two, perfect condition, 3 year old Sony Explodes. But what to do with them, well I had a computer system, also for three years, Its a logitech system that I got for a steal @ 34dollars. I also looked at the front of that and thought I had a eight. I still had a prefab 12" sealed enclosure laying around so I said screw it, I'll take out the 8, run the wires to the 12 in the prefab and call it a day., much to my surprise the 8 turned out to be a piece of carboard with a sorround and inside it was a 3 1/2 4Ohm speaker. Heres a pic.
So as you can see I took the wires off the 3 1/2 and ran some extensions leading to the back of the 12, tested it out, and for what it is, IT WANGS!
This is what it looks like under my desk now.
and with light
So, stereos, computer nerds, and you = Superior Wangage.
