Say you came across a laptop computer that apparently belonged to a corporation, and must have fell off a truck, and said machine was password protected and what-not. Is it possible to simply change hard-drives and re-format to make it so anyone could use the machine?

actually its not just password protected..it actually has a program that controls access to the machine

its a **** nice machine...and someone offered it to me really cheap (read like 5 hours wages for me) but i'm afraid if i bought it, said machine would be either unusable by me or worse, somehow have a low-jack type program and someone comes knocking on my door

I have one also, I got from a certain someone. I tried working on it, but got bored of it. However I didnt try changing the HD, reading this now I might get back into working on it.

this one you can't do ANYTHING to until you put in the passwords, then it lets you into the main windows screen.

yeah you should be able to swap the hard drive and reformat, i wouldnt see why not. I've done it with a desktop before

i don't have a issue dishing out a couple hundred to get it working seein's how its like a $3000 laptop.
