Well I am getting my tax return soon and looking to get into a labtop/Notebook. Whatever there called. I am not much of a computer person besides gaming and looking shit up,lol! So I wanted to know what would be a good notebook to look into for under 1000 bucks.

Currently I am looking into this one.

Alienware Area-51 m5700

Microsoft windows xp profressional servive pak2

Up to intel Pentium m780(2.26ghz 2 MB cache,533 MHz)

Up to 2 gb dual channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 533 MHz

up to 240 gb (120 gbx2) 5400 rpm sata hardrive

17" wide screen lcd with Clearview technology

1099 BUCKS! 100 dollar rebate. So 1000 after that.

no way your getting an AW spec'ed out like that for a G..i just got a dell 9300, i like it a lot. You can do all sorts of shit to upgrade them as well. Plus they are 17"

Is Dell anygood? Never tried them before, but I have a couple online friends that have them and dont like them. Never got into it with them why though. I will be playing alot of games on this. So need something decent.

I just config it with the 'up to' specs you listed, no extras like wireless, 9 cell battery, case and it was $3231...+ tax shipping and the stuff you need that i didnt include..4 g's is a reastic price for what you listed. Because you need stuff like a case, wifi ect.

Well fuc me, that sucks. I guess I am mis informed on the game informer. I cant go that high. Maybe 1500 bucks tops. But that is it. I really wanted a alienware for the gaming. Heard there the best. But too rich for my blood.

Man its going to really hard to get a gaming laptop for $1000, you pay a premium to have mobility gaming thats worth a shit...a dell is a good place to start because you can do things like pin mod and OC a CPU, upgrade to a gf 7800gtx for not that much $. If i was you i would look at a dell 9300. Get the basic options and upgrade when you have the $. check out the forums at http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=153

There is supposed to be a $750 off dell coupon starting today (saw it on that forum). Plus with the introduction of the e1705 there should be some good deals on 9300's when you have $ nd are ready to buy.

You are going to be very hard pressed to find a laptop that will play current games and still be under $1500. What I would do is piece together a decent desktop for gaming and then buy a cheap laptop for portable word processing/surfing.

Just so you know, i got a dell 9300, pentium M 1.86ghz, gig of ram, geforce 6800 256meg (overclocks to 380/780 no artifacts), 60gig 7200 rpm HD, 2950 a/b/g wifi, dvd+r, 2 batteries, 3 years Mcafee, back pack carry case and a 1 year waranty shipped overnight for $1588. I bought in the begining of Dec with a $750 off coupon and xmas time free upgrades. If you watch the deal sites for coupon codes you can do ok. Its certainly not the best gaming lappy but its good enough to play hl2 on all high settings. When its not good enough i can still upgrade for pretty cheap.
