Computer crashed.. Ipod question..

ok, well my computer crashed, and im rather pissed, i've lost alllllll of my 5000+ songs that were on there. now, everysingle one of those songs were on my ipod, is there a way i can get them off my ipod and back on my computer? i heard something about before you install itunes you can plug in your ipod and it's just like a big hard drive and you can take stuff on and off of it.

any suggestions? im quite frustrated at the moment.

What happened to your computeR? Are you sure you lost EVERYTHING? If you have a spare hard drive I would install windows on it, boot it and run the old hard drive as a slave. Check the disk to see if you can recover anything. 9 times out of 10 (minus a dead hard drive) you can recover a good portion of the stuff. Just a messed up allocations table or boot sector can make it look horrible, when really its not.

As far as the ipod goes, I know someone has defeated the moving songs from ipod to drive thing, I just dont' remember the name of the program. I will see if I can find it.

not sure what happened to it, im assuming a virus, idk, i was running real slow for awhile, went to re-frag the C drive, and just shut down half way through and wouldn't start. finally got it to start and lost everything.

EDIT: this happened before as well, but i was able to recover a good portion of my music, i can't find any of the files now.

Yep, all your songs are still on the hard drive. You could very easily slave it and get most if not all back.
