for the past two weeks my computer has started to shut itself off. it has also been moving incredibly slow. i think i my have a virus messing with my display settings aswell as maybe my internet accesability when i comes to entering secure sites when trying to order something (https). now today is the first time i've turned my computer on in 3 days and the computer screen keeps blinking on and off every 5 seconds or so. i have norton, wtf???

al

also, i've noticed under my windows task manager that when my monitor goes black for that second, the CPU usage skyrockets.

maybe i have a process running that i shouldn't, please, anyone with XP home let me know what processes you have running so that i may compare.

al

Hmm... Shutting itself off without user input is a sure sign of a Blaster worm.

Open your task manager, and see if you have a process running named "w32Blaster"

Also, if the PC will stay on long enough, why not run a scan with Norton?

could be many of different things.... something could be over heating.... Video card...?

Could be many of different virus's... alot of people copyed the "Blaster" and made it into there own...

go to;

Start

Run

Msconfig and take out basicly everything... expect the stuff you want to run...

go to start... run... regedit...

Local machine

software

microsoft

windows

curent version

run

And delete stuff i there that you dont need. Expect Default..

Also download "Microsoft Antispyware" and run that under "quick" then do a full scan..

IF that doesnt work... and its still doing it... check heat through out your different parts of the computer... make sure all of the fans are on.. and the heatsinks are touching...

if that doesnt work... post agian

Nortons is your dam problem, anytime I ever had an infection in my system I was running Nortons, I hate that friggin resource hog POS program, if it did find somthing it would just constantly pop up alerts and tell my that it cant remove the problem. My current set up includes Mcaffe AV, Windows firewall, Spybot search and destroy, Registry mechanic, the new Microsoft antispyware beta and mcaffe's trojan remover Stinger. I have never had a problem since switching.

if all else fails just reformat the computer
would have already been done if i could find the boot disk.

throw it in the garbage and stop using internet explorer and peer to peer sharing for warez and mp3's. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

run a anti virus that has to be up to day, run a spy ware removal program, do you have a firewall? if not then thats the case.. did you upgrade your comp? like adding in a new vid card? or HD's?

u dont need a bootdisk to install windows XP, just go in under ur cmos settings right when the computer boots up and set ur cd rom as the first boot device, then reboot with the windows XP disk in, it should boot up to the install program
