The wireless router still has a 4 port switch, it just gives you the ability to go wireless later on. I have that same router and it's great.ok whats the difference between the 2?
the one you posted is wireless and the one i did is not?
im not looking to go wireless this is just to split my connection between my pc and my kids pc.
I did this.If all you plan on hooking up is the 2 computers, just pick up a switch ... Most ISPs will allow you to use 2 IPs on 1 account. You can get switches really cheap.
If you plan on hooking up more than 2 computers to your internet connection, pick up a wireless router. I recommend the Linksys WRT54GL + DD WRT v23 SP2 firmware upgrade if you're cheap (This should run you about $50 - $60).
yeah you can convert to the new linux based software and get better speeds, but christ what a dog and pony show just to get the shit to work right. The later revisions of the WRT54G fvcking **** ... seriously ... They don't have nearly enough memory (Linksys cut it from 16 MB down to 8 MB and lowered the CPU frequency) plus the memory management of the firmware fvcking blows. The second you touch torrents, your connection will go to shit and you'll have to restart it several times a day if you want to maintain decent speeds. Unless, of course, you severely reduce the number of connections you can make, which, in turn, will reduce your speeds anyways.
The WRT54GL at least has the advantage of having a Linux-based firmware and, since it's Linux, there are tons of alternative firmwares you can install (DD WRT, Hyper WRT, etc.), most of which are leaps and bounds better (especially in terms of memory management) than the bullshit firmware you get from Linksys.
