I have a pair of the mtx tx6001 components. Headunit is a panasonic 7301u. At first they were being powered using a dual xf460 amp and didnt seem to get very loud at all even w/ the headunit turned up nearly all the way but they sounded clean and didnt distort at that high of a volume. So I figured it was the amp causing the problem which was no big deal bc this comming paycheck I was getting a new one. So yesterday I bought a mtx ta7402 amp wich is giving these things PLENTY power and once again the same problem. The amps have been set correctly, I have even done it by following the sticky. Anyone have some ideas as to what my "problem" could be? My old pioneer 6.5's running on a sony cdxf5710 headunit seemed to be louder than these things are.

There maybe be two factors that make a difference as well. Im running 8 power/ground and for speaker wire im using a roll of some 16 gauge I picked up at walmart. I also didnt even notice much of a difference if any from switching amps.

The gain setting tutorial garantees your amp will never clip- but does not garantee max volume or best SQ- you may want to try doing it the old school way- turn your HU up as loud as you will ever turn it, and then set the gain as loud as it will go without distorting- this may give you the output you are seeking.
