Comparing 1/0 to 4/0.

Thank you, working on about 2 hours of sleep in the past 60 hours (son in the ER for most of it).//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Sorry to hear that. I hope all is well. My son is home right now sick as well. Just a flu bug though. Nothing serious.

I thought...
smaller/more strands = more surface area

more surface area = less resistance

Right? So therefore the smaller but higher strand count would be more effective then the larger less strand count?

Or am i wrong in this?
there are only so many things that affect the current capacity of wire.

-surface area of the wire/ cross section of wire.

-- what you are mistaking is that the higher strand count is lowering the capacity when in reality all it is doing is using a lot more smaller strands that will together carry the same amount of current of a comparable size wire with thicker strands.

-length of the wire

-resistance of the wire ( I^2 x R)
