Comparing 1/0 to 4/0.

I'm looking at kolossus vs. ebay welding cable 4/0. This doesn't make sense. The knu has 5145 strands and the 4/0 has 2190 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Shouldn't the 4/0 be about twice the strand count of the 1/0 or am I missing something here?

Welding wire may not have the same diameter strands in their wire. Knu is designed for car audio so the strands are thin and have more of them. 4/0 should be pretty big, and with a count like that it might not be too flexible for use in car audio applications. I've never worked with wire that big so I can't say exactly how easy it is to work with.

see if they will send a little sample and the custom print is nice you could have them print "I HATE MY LIFE" on it. I think that stuff would be fine and carry lots of current.

i bought some 1/0 welding wire and it was pretty hard to work with. I wouldnt recommend using it..

it is good to use for a run from the front batt to front batt but if you have to bend it hardly any at all than I wouldnt recommend it. I used 1/0 hyperflex and it is a HUGE difference. But like I said you can use it in some situations.

I'm not exactly sure, but do you know how may amps this specific wire would carry? If it's not 600 amps, I'll get 1/0.

For a general rule of thumb, the higher the strand count, the more flexible the wire. If you took two different types of 1/0 wire that had the same effective diameter (meaning one didn't have a thicker jacket than the other), then you would be able to carry the exact same amount of current over both wires. The one could have 5000+ strands of fine wire and the other could have 2000 strands of thick wire and they would perform the same. The difference would be that the 2000 strand wire would be very inflexible compared to the 5000+ strand wire.

Now when you are comparing 4/0 with half the strand count of 1/0, you can be positive that the 4/0 will be tough as hell to bend. To some that would be too hard to work with. Most people prefer the flexible wire every day of the week and twice on Monday.

smaller/more strands = more surface area

more surface area = less resistance

Right? So therefore the smaller but higher strand count would be more effective then the larger less strand count?

Or am i wrong in this?
