common chamber vs seperate chamber?!

only way to know is to test it! and if thats the case you might as well build another box just like stated above. i say almost 100% of the time a prefab box dont come close to what the sub needs spec wise

I'm actually gonna upgrade my subs to an ssa xcon soon. I just want to see if i can get some better performance from what I have in the meantime. Also, I'm gonna sell the current set up I have so I dont want to ruin the box. just wanted to improve it a little so It will sound better while I gather the money for the xcon. plus it will be easier to sell If It sounds better.

I have two Jl audio 12w3's in a prefab seperate chamber box.The box measures 34w, 14h, 17d.

I was thinking about cutting the middle out to make a common chamber.

would I benefit from this?
No. I won't make any difference. IMHO separate chambers are slightly better.

well if this is the case just leave it alone. your not going to notice any difference making them common chamber right now. unless you get loading problems from the mod

why are they better?
If one of your subs dies it won't affect the one in the other chamber.

I assume that this is a sealed box? Building a ported box for these would make a huge difference. You might want to try that out before upgrading the subs.

also, there are variances from one sub to the next, so in a shared chamber, this doubles the difference. so, the more powerful sub will rob airspace (and consequently have more chamber to it, giving less effect) and then it will be playing more than the slightly weaker sub. with separate chambers, this is not the case. they each play of their own equal amount of space for the most even performance. in short, it leads to mild cancellation. if you want to improve on the box, stiffen it. removing the divider also takes rigidity from it.
