What do you do with them atfer you are sick of seeing them sit in your closet. I have a huge collection of sport cards even comics and comic cards as well. What do you do with them after the years of them sitting in your closet or were ever you store them. My collection is from the late 80's to Mabye early 01's. Comics are all from the 90's. Do you go to shows and try to sell them that way. Sift through them and find all the rookies and Big named players. Or do you have some one come in, like a appraiser and give an estimate on how much they are worth. I see some CL adds to for ppl asking for just rookies cards and now even just commens. I assume they sell them for other prices that they give me. Some sports I have no clue who the big named guys/girls are.

Its been a while since I looked at price guides. Who is even out anymore. I know one company beckett. Comics would be wizard. Are both still around.

I have all sorts of both...most are just stored away....
Im in the same boat. Have you thought about selling them. I might be moving again. I just really hate to be lugging them around again. No movers will ever touch them. Well really just me. Not even the wife lol. But yeah. My old house they been sitting in the closet so long it had that new card smell in there when ever some one open the closet up.

They flooded the market with too many cards. Back in the day it just used to be Topps, Fleer and Upper Deck. Now there is like 50 different companies with 50 different lines of cards. I went to the shop last year and cards are like $7 a pack for 5 cards. Wtf? I did pull a jersey card from one of those but the guy at the shop didnt' even want to buy it back from me (it was a Troy Polamalu).

I remember pulling a Shaq rookie insert platinum game time performer something or another and it was like $500 at the time. I think it's worth $70 now.

If I were you, I would sort through them and keep the rookies, errors, inserts etc. and then store the rest in your Mom's or Grandmother's attic (or someone not likely to move for many years). I realized years ago that I may never get true value for even my best cards, but maybe my son will so I just consider them investments... for him.

Not to offend the collectors here, but sports card values will never go back to what they were. Not even the old ones from way before the market was flooded with 50 different brands of them. Lets face it, collecting sports cards just isnt the popular hobby it once was. And I dont see any reason to believe it ever will be again. The old-time collectors that do it because its a passion already have filled collections in many cases, are too old to care about new cards, or are simply dying off. And baseball, arguably the backbone of sports card collecting, isn't the popular sport it once was. Blame it on changing trends in society, negative publicity in the sport of baseball, whatever you want... but I dont see the days of buying new baseball cards for a few bucks, and finding a card in it worth $500, ever coming back. Same with comic books. Again no offense meant to collectors here, if its your passion, do it. But if you do it for any other reason, like for financial reasons, I think you are fooling yourselves. Maybe Im wrong and popularity will come back, but I doubt it.

I think the hobbie is still there. I say that because. You still see it on ebay. I know not the greatest place. But you still see alot of Hobbie Expo's. There are going to be 4 in 30 minutes of driving in the up coming few months here. And I looked at the list they are all over the place. Now If it was really that bad. I would think you wouldnt see that many Expo's. There are a few Card Comic shops in my area as well.

Now I do understand what you are saying about the flooding of card companies way to many. But I do still think that the older cards will hold some kindof value.

I will say to. Sport fan Crazy maniac I bet will pay somthin for cards too. Like the Philly Crazy ppl. Im sure they will. Like they are so die hard fans Im sure a few would skip their own wedding to see the philly team play in a big game.

Ebay is about the only thing you can do at this point. That is about the only place you might find a buyer with similar interests.
I did see one of my spiderman comic books sell on there for over 30 bucks. Not bad I think for me paying 1.25 for it back in the day.

I wasn't suggesting values are completely gone, or the hobby of collecting these items is dead. But several decades ago it was a much more popular hobby than it is now. There is no doubt video games and HotWheels have replaced the lure of baseball collecting that kids decades ago use to participate in. Yes, old cards and comics will always hold some value, but not like they did in their golden era of a couple decades ago. Again, if you do it as a passion, by all means, keep doing it. But I doubt the idea of building a retirement on it, or paying for your kid's college with them, is a reality anymore.
