cold weather effects

does cold weather effect the lifetime of different pieces of the stereo? in other words, would someone's amp, or nav unit that sits outside through some frigid winters have a shorter lifetime thant someone's in a well climate controlled garage? i'm just curious because it gets real cold in where i live and i wonder if sitting in 0 degrees isn't good for the stereo.

amps can blow if you push them too hard when they are cold.. things heat up at an incredible rate in amplifies, going from 20 degrees to 160 in a matter of minutes will cause pieces to break. expansion and contraction

cold has ridiculous effects on t/s parameters for speakers and subwoofers. i think there was a thread on diyma about it.

if you're in a place that gets cold, play your system at a moderate level to warm up before you play it at higher listening levels

Well I have no garage to park in and I live in a snowy land! My amp if its a really cold night is sometimes frost bitten. Subs never had frost on it but im sure its voice coil has been pretty stiff from the cold. So in the mornings I lightly bump so the sub has little to none excursion

Alright, cause if someone came up to me and said "does cold weather affect my stereo equip if its just sitting outside."
Id be like WTF? Get that shit in a car or a house.
