i prolly have over 200 burnt up coils in boxes. Its funny to hear people say "it just stopped working" then i tear it apart and the former looks like an accordian.

so when voice coils are discolored like that it means its dead? someone please educate me on voice coils.

dave it dose look like a faulty coil, his faulty.

when coils start to darken it means they got hot and the coil glue starts to cook a little. it dosent mean they are ruined. when they turn all black like some of the pixs posted above they are shot. different coil manufactures coat there coils with different colored glue and some come black brand new, just not burnt,lol.

ah, i see. i have a sub with darker coils and wondered if i should be worried, but it still plays fine.

wouldnt worry about it. when you see these black coils these guys are showing you they let out ALOT of magic smoke.

These are from my Soundstream t5-12, The coil came apart while I was dis-assembling it. I guess I over powered them or clipped them, maybe manufacture deffect. one has a freaking whole in the form.
