ok i was hessing with all my HU settings on the way home from work to see what sounds best to me. its got alot of features. i noticed when i have the HPF off the 6x9's in the rear only get bass if i put it all the way to the left, or to the the right. if its centered at 0 on the BAL control.. theres no bass, or little. does this mean its wired wrong? also.. my front 5.25's bass sounds like shit, period. which is WHY i had the HPF on until i get some new subs and an amp. could i possibly have wired them wrong also? the wires running from the car to the door speakers are red and black. red pos, black neg. or so i think anyway. ive switched them before, with no difference. theyre pioneers... heres a pic of the 5.25's in front, i have matching 6x9's but no pics of those. but theyre the same model

are these just a shitty model? could they be wired wrong? but i swear i switched the wired on them and the bass still sounded like shit. id like some bump until i get my subs and amp back, and my 6x9's will give that to me (once i switch the wires around so both play bass at the same time) or is there a 5.25 coaxial set that produces just highs?

just for some reason, with as little power going to them as it is (390MP powering all 4) the bass is horrible. the rest is great, the mids and high SQ is amazing. need a lil more tweaking with the HU settings. all in all im satisfied with my 390mp's capabilites.. just not my 5.25's in the front maybe theyre 3.5's i dont remember i havent looked at them in a long time and when i bought them i knew nothing about car audio

an amp will not help my situation. if my 5.25" bass sounds horrible off of HU power, why would an help help? and belive me.. i just started a new job and redoing my system. my first paycheck will go to an Infinity 2way component set, 3way infinity 6x9 coax, and a kenwood 4channel amp. next paycheck will be a new(er) HU. then, lastly my Type R (dual2) powered by a Brutus giving approx 1200watts, in a PSP box

umm well i dont know what planet you come from, but any sort of amp power over 25 watts will sound WORLDS, even GENERATIONS better than headunit power... that is considering your headunit is like any other name brand on the market putting out barely 15 watts...

no the HU puts out great sound all around, thats not what im saying. its my fronts inparticular bro.. the bass sounds horrible. sounds distored, flabby.. it doesnt sound like bass at all.. which is why i leave the HPF on around 80 or so to drown out any bass. but the 6x9's put out great lows mids and highs (with HPF off and FADE all the way to the rear, i only put it on the rear to hear the difference) when all 4 speakers are playing, when bass notes hit my front speakers sound horrible. the rears sound great (once i switch the wires around) i mean it doesnt thump but u can hear the bass (6x9). the front 5.25s give out good highs but the bass notes sound ****ing horrible. should i just try a different front coaxial until i get my comp set? its ONLY the front speakers. the rest sound perfect to me for now

well first off, any amplifier will still sound WORLDS better than your headunit

trust me on this, once you hear your speakers amp'd off of 50 watt rms or more, you will fall in love... second off, is your door speakers properly sealed? also your not supposed to hear bass from 5.25"s... mayby high midbass at the most...

but subbass (bass) is usually made by subwoofers

im not talking about subbass im talking about mid bass. so which means i cant hear my 6x9 midbass because if i turn off my HPF to hear it, the fronts sound horrible and distored. i see what u mean tho, if i amplify them, i can adjust the fronts for just highs and my 6x9 for a lil more midbass and get exactly what i want. a lil midbass from my 6x9s and purely highs from my 5.25's. correct?

yes if you get a seperate amp for your fronts and rears you can have your fronts hpf @ 100 hz and your rears @ 70 hz

or any fancy 4 channel will do also...

it will also sound 463643x better and louder and clearer and just very very very good'er //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok cool thats what i need then. well i guess ill just deal with no midbass until i upgrade to my component set. a 4channel amp will run my front comps and rear 6x9's correct? is that what the xover is for? to send power to the tweets? xovers confuse me, im nervous about installing my first comp set. seems like the most complicated thing to do out of all stereo installs. i can install HU's, coaxials, amps, subs, etc.. never done comps tho. bbiab gonna go see my woman for a few.. women.. shit.. just worked a 13 hour shit and shes *****ing cuz i ain seen her all day. lemme know whatever info u can on comp installs and what the xovers in comp sets do, and ill read it later. peace and thanks for the help man, i appreciate it

Did you install the head unit or have it done by a shop? You should be able to isolate each speaker such that only it is playing by using the balance and fader controls to see if the speakers are wired to the correct channels on the head unit. If they are not wired correctly, the place to make the changes would be at the adapter harness which connects the harness from your head unit to the stock harness.

The crossover on your head unit is more suited to use with a sub. It doesn't allow for fine tuning and affects all four speakers when used. Even at the lowest setting at 50 hz you will have a noticeable loss in bass from the 6x9s. If you are getting distorted bass from the 5.25s it is likely they are just being asked to do more than they are capable of, especially if you are turning up the bass boost on the head unit and cranking up the volume. Since you plan on adding a sub in the near future, you could wire in a simple set of crossovers on the 5.25's to block the bass frequencies to the front channels. It would be a fairly simple and cheap fix for a temporary run. This is of course after you're sure the speakers are wired to the correct channels.

A set of bass blockers for the fronts would help out for now. Only like $8, they will HP the fronts at like 150Hz so they won't distort...

Also when you upgrade put 6.5's in the front, will be MUCH better.

well i know the fronts are wired correctly, just have to redo my 6x9. as far as the volume, its on 52 out of 65, bass at zero. EQLOW is at 1, EQmid is 2-3 EQHIGH is3,

got it on Comp2 (Comp/bmx) SLA is -2. so theres no bass coming from them and they sound great the way i set it up described above. thats with the HPF at 100. when i turn the HPF off is when i get bass, just the 5.25s sound horrible.

where can i look into getting a bass blocker until i get my comp set?
