Clipping

from what i understand clipping can be caused by either overdriving the input on an amp(have a hu that is 4 volt & set the gains at .5 volts) or running an amp hard while the voltage drops low(9-11 volts). either one can cause damage to speakers or amps. there are others on here that can explain better than i. hope this helps.

Does bass boost on the amp clipand does the bass on the head unit affect clipping too.
yes, bass boost is a no-no. The bass engine on the head unit will not clip it if you have your gains set correctly on your amp. Just keep your amp level, or gain at a safe level.

Head unit clipping has nothing to do with amp settings. You can clip the headunit's output by cranking the volume / gain / EQ. You can also clip the signal by raising the gain or bass boost on the amp.

Either way you shouldn't need to use any bass boost on a correctly setup system.
