Cleaning/protecting from rust?

Got some old speakers, some rust in the gap. Can I clean it out and hit it with WD-40?

I wouldnt use any oil based substance on any speaker sub or any audio gear.Pics would be nice to see what you are talking about to get some recommendations

Sand paper and a shop vac... and some rubbing alcohol

I say paint with some rustoleum after you clean up the gap with sand paper and tape

Excellent recommendation IMO

i agree but make **** sure you use the high temp pant and make **** sure you dry it very good. put some paint thinner to dry it out really good and once that dries wipe it don't and paint it..

I don't know if high temp is really necessary, but I've used black grill paint before on exhaust tips with good results.
