Clean vs Pounding hit??

I was wondering what is the major factor that distinguished the type of bass sounds a sub will put out. I have been in cars with a crystal clear sounds that is ballanced and sounds nice. It doesn't rattel the fillings out of your teath. On the other hand there are the systems you hear from 2 miles away and I often wonder how can the person drive if their eyes are being knocked around in their head.

Ideally I am looking for that ballanced sound.

Thanks!

I'm going to get flamed all to hell for doing this, but here goes.

nice clean in your car

one 10, two 10's, or one 12 sealed

250-500W rms

the middle

one 15 sealed, 2 12's sealed

one 12 ported

500-1000W rms

very loud on a budget

two 15's or 12's ported

one 15 ported in large enclosure

over 1000W rms

JMHO

The type of vehicle you have has a huge bearing on this..

I am rocking a 1992 Buick Regal 2 Door with a huge trunk. I bought a Alpine type R 12" dual voice coil (4ohm) sub. The amp I have for it is a Alpine MRD-M1000 (1000w mono channel) And a 1.3 ft^3 sealed box. I am looking for the nice clean sound. I havent put it in yet and I can still return everything if its not right.

Thanks for the help.

I've been wondering this too. I have a 12" mag on 1200watts in a trunk car and it's pretty much one of the loudest (well quieter than my friends 15" q) setups I've heard in car. Pathetic that's all I've really heard but not horrible compared to the ghetto equipment I hear in other cars.

Now how come sometimes I can hear some people's systems from miles away? Like the ones that seem to shake the pavement, they sound perfect with no rattles or anything. But I step outside my car and all I hear is rattling. I've tried to deaden everything and take care of rattles but can't seem to stop it as I can see my trunk flex lol.

Is it because I'm too far away from these "other" cars to hear the rattles? Do they have insane setups? (doubt it). Or is it probably car type like SUV's that don't have a sealed trunk and the sound travels easier?

my two 10" rf power hx2 ported would've rattled your brain ;)"

I listen to classic rock and some Rap. Not sure what you mean by front stage but Im assuming your talking about the rest of the speakers in the car. (Sorry n00b here) I have some small components in the front and some 4-way 6x9's in the back. Both aftermarket. They are amped with a 1000w 4channel amp
