I'll say this now before someone decides to post a witty retort to your question.

It's a matter of preference, both perform the same function each with their own pro's and con's.

The main advantage of slot ports is the area of the port is not confined to a pre-determined size like round ports.

Circular ports in general will have less reistance for the same port area because the cylinder will have the least surface area for a given port volume. The less surface area of port, the less frictional losses in the port. Circular ports that are flared at both ends will perform the best, giving you the least port loss for a given amount of port area.

The advantage of a slot port is that it is often more versatile and can be built into a structural component of the enclosure to increase strength. The disadvantage is greater port losses (ie. greater port area required), they take up more volume than tube ports, and it is harder to adjust tuning.

just me, I like circular ports on enclosures smaller than 2.5 cubes and slot ports on anything larger than 2.5 cubes.

to answer your question it's really just a matter of what you prefer.

Through searching I have read that most people recommend between 12 to 20 square inches of port area for a slot port. What would be a recommended port area when using Aero Ports?

For example, I'm wanting to use an entry level sub (12W1v2) with an xmax of only 9.5 mm in a 2.5 cubic foot box tuned to 32-35 hz. Would a single 4" Areo Port work for this application?

Use 2 4's if possible.

1 4" aeroport would work, but nothing wrong with 2, especially if you happen to switch out to a beefier sub

I don't use round ports much anymore...

my slot port design has absolutly no port noise at all

and I am not restricted to the pre made port sizes
