Chrysler to be bought by Fiat

Fiat must not read up on the history of the company. The US government failed doing this years ago, then Damlier was badly damaged doing this, now Fiat thinks they are going to avoid the steady pattern of fail by Chrysler? Unreal.

Maybe they want to get back into the american market? It's not been since the 80's that Fiat's were sold in America.

They were actually ahead of the times on the gas guzzlers, hell my Fiat Spyder got like 30 mpg.

And lets not forget the Fiat Dino, who still gets well over $60k at Barrett Jackson.

Ford is surviving by selling the f150 by the boat load, they are also selling small cars over seas. they listen to consumers, where GM has only fleet vehicles to rely on. Chrysler is just fawked.

I wish Toyota had some of that advanced cup holder technology, the cup holders in my Camry can't be used at the same time as the ashtray! LAME, how am I to drink and drive??? I always smoke when I drink or drive!

I'll pass on the Ferrari powered viper, the Viper is it's engine, without it, it would be HORRIBLE!

No. They did it to themselves. Poor quality overpriced products that did not appeal to the what the consumers wanted. Capitalism works fine. The big 3 failed to compete. They absolutely refused to build what the consumers demanded. Honda and Toyota listened.
Are you sure about that? Or is it possible they steered the public down the path they wanted everyone to be?

Thank union labor for making it impossible for the American Auto industry to succeed, better products or not. Assembly line workers making $25-$40 an hr, full benefits, retirement, etc... it was only a matter of time. Everyone acts like its a surprise, this was predicted 20 or more years ago for no other reason than retirement payouts.

edit: Every year markets and economies become more global. As this happens, the deleoped nations will have a hard time competing for labor rates, as exactly what we see now in the US vs China or India. Simply throwing money at a failing and antiquated business plan will not work. But then, our politicians show no signs of having the intelligence, ability, or even desire to actually steer us in the right direction. Personal gain coming before the public's best interest. And yet we just keep electing them, thinking if we try the other party this election we will see any form of real change. Sheeple.

You're right! We're all just victims of an elaborate marketing scheme. $6 a gallon gas, fuel efficeincy, improved reliablity, lowered cost to maintain and performance had nothing to do with it.

Bring back the K car!!!

See? That's a prime example of what I am referring to. Forget the price of fuel for a second. Forget the other factors whether they are accurate or not. Look at the K - not because of the fact that it was smaller, cheaper, more fuel efficient than its counterparts, etc. - but because Chrysler marketed the shit out of it. Chrysler created a need that really wasn't there to begin with at the time.

EDIT: Let me rephrase that - Chrysler didn't create the need, but rather jumped on the whole energy crisis paranoia bandwagon that was present at the time. Lee Iakoka was a marketing genius and he took Chrysler to heights that it will never see again.

The japanese don't pay for labor?

Maybe they don't pay for benefits, retirement, etc? I think they do.

Or maybe they invested billions $$$ in product development and plant automation to gain market share. American companies took all profits out of the company as short term shareholder dividens and executive bonus to pump up the stock price for the next quarter? Reinvesting in the company would have cut into thier rush to pump up the stock price this week.

Too bad GM/Crysler didn't work as hard at improving thier product as they did at preventing the federal gov't from buying foriegn made cars for gov't use. The sinlge largest buyer of cars in the world. Without that requirement the big 3 would have failed along time ago.

"Blame the unions" is easier to accept than the fact the American companies simply "FAILED".

Chrysler should have been allowed to fail in the 70's. This is not the first time Chrysler has aksed the tax payers to bail them out.

x2

How the **** is a company like Fiat going to save Chrysler when Daimler couldn't.
