I find it ironic actually. Women of color used to be mocked and made fun of for having bigger lips. Now, I see a lot of women running around with shyt in their lips. Baffles me.
Maybe the mocking was a form on envy?
Think about this:
Lip implants - to have big lips like a black person
Tanning - to have a darker, more even skin tone like a black person
Butt implants - self explanatory
Breast implants - Not necessarily for the black person factor, but could contribute to the overall appearance.
That's not to say that black women haven't been doing their fair share of envious "beauty" practices! With black women, its done on a much cheaper scale, through the upkeep causes it to end up costing more over time. Lets take a look at the black side of trying to be more "white":
Hair Weaves - straighter, longer hair like a white person
Skin lightening/bleaching/light make-up - to lighten extreme dark skin
Low rise/slim hip style jeans - to make their butt and hips appear smaller/ less round
Various liposuction/reductions - a more permanent solution for a black person's exaggerated features.
All in the name of insecurity!
