barry sanders never one a championship and he had a personality that didn't take to kindly to the fans. detroiters loved ben wallace and his work ethic.

Strange, I always heard MVP chants or Barry, Barry when I watched a lions game. Not to mention he is probably one of the top 5 rb's in the history of the game. I know a lot of people where upset when he retired at such a young age and in his prime, but IMO I dont think you can even compare the two.

Also, not everything is based on if you win a championship. There are a shit ton of superstars in sports that have had an amazing career and never won a championship. ben wallace was a fan favorite. barry sanders was quiet and eccentric and not a good team leader. people loved to watch him play like they did ben wallace, but ben was just a fan favorite. the palace was filled with fans wearing fros. hell detroit is in the guiness book of world records for most fake afros worn. plus in the stands they wore R shirts for every rebound like at a baseball game when you hold up a k for strikeouts.

While Ben will always have a place in Detroit sports, always be remember for how he left, rather then how he turned the team around. I was at the game on Sunday and I was kinda shocked he was boo'd....

As far as being more respected than Barry, I will never say that. My dad used to take me to Lions games all the time back in the Silverdome days and the "Barry, Barry" chant was a constant. People would always say how even though the Lions ****, Barry was worth the price of admission. The first year my dad got season tickets to the Pistons was Ben's first year (teal days) and NO ONE would watch the Pistons. The place was always empty and that was Ben's best statistical year.

Oh well though, Pistons are still goin back to the ship this year... and it is rather funny how all the Bulls fans came out of the wood works after one game then just disappeared!!!

Dont matter anyway, because either Phoenix or Dallas will probably take it this year.

don't count out detroit. they can still play D and they have balanced scoring and a better bench then last year.

I just dont think they could hang with either team in Phoenix or Dallas. They may take a game or two, but they wont beat them in a series. Thats if they can take the east. washington, chicago, cleveland just are frankly not that good yet. detroit has proven they can get it done in the playoffs and neither of those teams have. remember when rasheed came over in 04 it gave them the same spark that webber has given them this year. phoenix style doesn't win in the playoffs and dallas can be bullied by detroit

wait you bring up what detroit did last year, but fail too mention that dallas and phoenix didn't win it last year, nor has either been to 4 straight conference finals, nor has either been to 2 championships, nor has either won a championship recently.

detroit wasn't right from the begining last year. michael redd tore them apart but milwaukee sucked so bad they rolled over them. they should've lost to cleveland but when push came to shove, cleveland couldn't get it done when they needed too

also you bring up record, but the last 4-5 teams with the best record in the league hasn't won a championship. when detroit made it too their 2 nba finals, they only had 54 wins and they are on pace to win that many this year.

phoenix has yet to beat a good defensive team in the playoffs. they got killed by the spurs in 05 and got beat by a less then stellar defensive dallas team.
