checking polarity

Hey I know I can use a battery to figure out what wires run to what speakers...but how can I figure polarity? I think I remember hearing that if the speaker cone pushes outwards it's positive and inwards if it's negative but couldn't you just swap the battery around and make it go the opposite way?

whatever lead off the positive terminal of the 9v batt. pushes the speaker cone outword. is the positive terminal on the speaker.... you had it right.
