Cheapest Place To Buy An Ipod?

I heard that you can plug your ipod into your alpine headunit if it is new enough. How new does your headunit have to be? I have the CDA-9833.

I also would like to know where the cheapest place is to buy the 30GB ipod and the cheapest place to buy the interface.

I wouldn't buy an iPod anywhere other than an authorized retailer... i've heard so much about people having problems with them...

that being said i'm certinally going to buy one, however, i'm going to buy one and get circuitcity's accidental damage plan on it cuz if ANYTHING happens within four years its swapped....

If I don't get the interface will it still work? What does the extr $100 give me?

Without the interface, the only other options you have are FM mod, and aux VIA ai-net to aux. adaptor.

The interface will let you control the Ipod through the radio, unlike the 2 options above.

You're not going to find either of them significantly cheaper anywhere online. You are better off paying full retail, and getting a full warranty.

I bought the Alpine Ipod interface about a year ago- most of them on ebay actually worked out to be more then it was through Crutchfield after shipping. I bought it through Crutchfield.

Yeah just buy and Aux cable and plug it in...that interface sucks...it runs super slow controling with your h/u

I ran it off of 2 Alpines and had no problems...it's leaps and bounds better then the POS Pioneer unit.

Any other option will be non digital and it will sound like ***. The complaints about it being super slow are just ridiculous. If you know your way around Itunes, you can create custom playlists so that you dont have to sort through 60 gigs of music, especialy while in the middle of rush hour traffic. Also, I would much rather controll my music with my HU remote versus having to hold the Ipod in my hand and try and scroll through the music that I wanna listen to...

Just my 2 cents.

As long as you keep your Ipod ogranized, the Alpine works pretty good.

If you are expecting Car Audio type of savings for buying unauthorized, it isn't going to happen. They might might $20 on a $200 ipod, instead of $100 on a $200 amp like most car audio guys. For $20, is it worth it? Probably not.

iPods are a very high demand item. Whether you sell them for $300 or $299.99 or $350, they'll sell like tissues at an allergy convention.

so its just not economically adventageous for retailers to sell ipods for significantly less (like $279.99 for a 30 gig, for example) because you can sell the same ipod for $300 and it will be bought either way. The cheapest place I've ever seen ipods was either with a) the student discount (10%) already applied, or at walmart (which i wont buy anything from) where they were like $3 less than at the apple store.

as for connecting it to THAT specific head unit, there is no better option than the kci-420 unit, period. Cleanest, best sound.. control from the hu (not as slow as some people make it out to be.. anyone who owns one will tell you that) and it chargers your ipod, too.
