Cheapest PC upgrade?

Cheapest PC upgrade would be a reformat and a couple hours worth of tweaking ...
x2

I think ram as an "upgrade" is overrated

What sort of computer is it?

I say Fvck it and get a new processor, theres and upgrade with measurable and usable performance benefits.

I need to reformat again soon, but i probably wont do that until i have a new laptop or computer. This one could use new ram badly. and a new fan on the bottom due to me slamming it down.

RAM is pointless if you already have enough. OP needs to find out what his biggest bottleneck on his system is, and upgrade that. No, it won't be the cheapest. It WILL be the most effective.

Reformat and install a fresh copy of windows.

Upgrade ram to a minimum of 1 gig, 2 gig is preferable

If you built the computer and reused the hd from a previous computer that can cause it to be slow as well, or if you bought a really cheap pre configured desktop they may have put in a 5400rpm hd. An upgrade to a resonable 7200rpm drive can help there too

and if it is gaming performance you want a combination of at least 1gig of ram and a nice shiny new video card will make a huge differece

how can you recommend that he get a gig of ram minimum when we have no idea what kind of computer he has he might have an old beige dinosaur with a p3 800 MHZ in it then would a gig of ram really be worth the money?

def ram but billa if your comp isrunning slower go to msconfig and disable all startups and then do disk cleanup then defrag and it should run better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
done it already. still slow.
