Cheap soundproofing material

I've done some searching all over the net and I am yet to have someone say a material that is dead cheap to buy that provides a good amount of soundproofing.

Some people say Peal N Seal but I don't want any smells and leaves a mess as I understand that's what it does.

What could I buy at lets say Home Depot or Lowes that would provide "good" soundproofing. I just don't want to spend hundreds of $$ on it. I want a nice soundproofing -- not top notch -- but decent for dead cheap.

You should have searched this forum. There are tons of deadening threads.

Get some Raamat (best bang for buck) and Second Skin is the best you can buy so they say. Don't use eDead, and Fatmat is basically Peel & Seal. I'll let the guys take it from there.

100 sq feet of FATMAT is 100 bucks plus shipping...i ****ing love this shit. Some have had complaints, but i've done it on 3 vehicles (working on the 3rd right now) and i've loved it. 50 sq feet can be had for 55 bucks plus shipping i think.

Anything from lowes will stink the shit outta your car.

EDIT: TurdFergueson2 is a freakin moron. Everybody hates him. FATMAT is nowhere near peel and seal garbage. i've bought some peel and seal for comparison purposes. Night and day difference.

I liked peel N Seal but after I read about the smell -- to me its not worth it at all. Last thing I want is a smell in my car to give sound proofing.

Something clean, provides decent sound proofing and cheap. Am I asking too much lol?

I'll look into the fatmat.

I used peel and seal on the trunk floor of my 1997 Civic and I will never use that stuff again. Months later it still smells like I am installing a roof in that tiny car!

A friend of mine gave me a roll of the more expensive eDead. It appears to be butyl based and has a black vinyl backing. It also does not have the smell that peel and seal does and it seems to stick pretty dang good! I have only done one of the doors in my Civic with it, but for free sound deadener, I won't complain!

I will see how well it (eDead) adheres to the trunk lid after I get some more denatured alcohol as well as do the other door when my components come in tomorrow.

I should sig this, but you're not worthy. The owner happens to own a roofing company too.....You dipshit. I never said it doesn't work Hell I used Peel & Seal before and it did the job for me. But to pay 100 bux for the same stuff minus some ink is up to the buyer. On several forums they have called out the owner and he will not admit that the shit is not asphault.

But OP Tehgregzor is still butthurt I called him out on hacking up his truck for insurance purposes. Claimed some black guy he got into it with or some shit did it. Read this thread and then decide if you should be taking sound advice form a jagoff like this.

undercoating is a sound deadener. a can is 5$ at home depot. i wouldn't use it anywhere except inside the box though. i suspect you'd need 20 coats of it to deaden a door or trunk lid sufficiently. could be a huge mess.

Care to explain how FatMat is different than Peel & Seal? Every dimension is the same, composition is the same, melting temperature is the same. The owner of FatMat has never answered that question either - although he admits that the composition is the same. There is no reason to believe that FatMat is anything but P&S with a logo stenciled on it.
