I like the sound of the x993 and now have the jvc sh1000.Looking at the newer sony and jvc units any models you can put me up on?
I can not spend $300 plus on a hu just looking for cheap units people like. You don't get a fancy DAC on a cheap head unit, but it doesn't really matter. You're not going to hear a difference anyway if you're truly objective. Buy what looks good and has the features you want. Sony, JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion....they all have good budget head units with USB.
Thanks man I will look into them. These days $150 gets you a pretty nice single DIN. For people in my area, the Kenwood KDC-152 is a solid choice. I sell more of those than anything else, and that can be found for well under $100. The KDC-352U would give you USB, iPod control, AM/FM/CD/MP3, 2 pairs of RCA pre-outs, remote control.
I also like the Clarion CZ302. Pandora, USB, Aux, HPF/LPF, iPod, remote control, steering wheel control plug on the back.
The "$60" head unit I mentioned was not a suggestion. It was an example of a good cheap head unit that works well for some people. This is why I went on to list more expensive head units.Oh, and the source is a very important part of your install. If everything is installed well(there is no road noise, static, etc.), then buying a $60 head unit like Trumpet suggests will completely ruin what you've got going for you.
you won't if the rest of the system isn't up to par, but you will if you swap headunits in a sq comp car.You don't get a fancy DAC on a cheap head unit, but it doesn't really matter. You're not going to hear a difference anyway if you're truly objective. Buy what looks good and has the features you want. He's just confirming what your original thought was, which is that head units sound different than each other.I don't get what you are saying.
