Cheap good sounding components

Hey guys,

I'm helping a friend who knows nothing about car audio.

He wants a cheap set of Component speakers. The catch is, they are not going to be amped. The stock HU puts out roughly 17 RMS, so nothing needs to be over 50 RMS if need be.

I was looking into the Pioneer A-series 6.5" components. 50 RMS, nice silk done tweeter, etc.

Anything else better fit the bill? Opinions?

It's perfectly possible to run components off a head unit, but I wouldn't bother fabricating for it. If the car is already fitted with tweeters and you want to replace what's there, go ahead. It'll certainly sound better than the stock, paper crap they put in there.

Since there's not much power to go around, speaker sensitivity is the most important thing. Those pioneers should do fine, but if you have a bit more money, you can consider stepping up to the Revs (d-series).

Also, I'd consider Crystal Mobilesound. I used a set of Crystal coaxes long ago to replace blown factory speakers for a family member and was very impressed with what I heard for the price. Really great value.

I believe 95stroked1500 is a Crystal dealer and can probably help you out with that. Try PMing him.

For this application, I'd be inclined to go with the Crystal CPEs. Great value, great sound and slightly higher sensitivity than either of the Pioneers. All those options would fit the bill well, though. Can't go wrong with any of them.
