Channels missing - Just bought an old Tahoe that has an Alpine CDE-9870 and I assume

OEM speakers. I get full volume from RF and a slight bleed over into the other speakers - e.g. not full volume but you can hear some faint tinny sound. I haven't had unit out so don't how it was wired. Any thoughts re problem? Thanks.

You are probably right but I'm not spending any $ on speakers if I can't get a signal to them. Need to solve this problem first.

lol, delco speakers aren't that bad...... that's all i have in my 01 tahoe, and they sound just fine, and are efficient. they just don't like being clipped. now, what year tahoe? it probably has a blown stock amp behind the ash-tray-ish, or glove-box, depending on year. check the wiring of the hu first, and test output from each channel.... bypass the stock amp, and call it a day, most likely. need info.

It's a '99. So there is a stock amp separate from the Alpine unit? Down below? I don't have the bracket keys to remove the HU so I was hoping to know what was probably the issue before buying some. If it's the amp I may not even need to take the HU out.

I would think that the symptom of slight bleed over into the otrher 3 channels means something. I'd think that means the speakers are working but not getting channel signals.

That "bleed over" sounds alot like it is that factory amp giving you problems... The amp should be behind the glove box, also you would have to pull the HU out to see this but in those year models I believe you have to connect the remote wire on the HU into a little pink wire on a separate harness back there to make it all work correctly

also, simple things first...... check the fuses.... you say rf, and iirc, that is the one channel that can play with the amp having no main power. i do remember seeing just that problem on more than one 99+ pickups (only full volume on the rf speaker)

oh, and you may be able to have a shop pull the deck out with their forks for free, or they might be nice enough to just toss a couple spares your way for free....

OK, found the amp and disconnected the plug and... no change - still get sound from RF but nowhere else. Didn't have right wrench to pull amp. Does that mean amp is bad? There appear to be some wires entering the top side (furthest away) but I can't get to them w/ the amp in.
