CES Fi Style!

Nicks on a plane so I guess Ill answer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif22" will be on the BTL, BL, and IB3 (with some mods versus the other IB3 drivers). Cant do an SSD with it and doesnt seem like we can do a worth while Q either. But I honestly dont see the need for a 22" Q. Moving mass is the issue and some of the drivers are tapped out at an 18".

The test rig does t/s params vs excursion and frequency. Similar to a Klippel, but I dont have the $$$ to throw around on a full blown Klippel as well as their new scanning vibrometry system. So I do what I normally do and made it. Still need to have a friend finish up some code for other functions, but it is serving us well so far. My favorite thing is being able to make scans of the cones vs excursion and frequency. Its definitely allowing me to see whats going on with tweeters in a way I havent been able to before. This will play out big time for some high frequency stuff I want to do.

Thanks,

Scott
Thanks for the info scott, great to see you around again

What kinda language is that machine working on?

Your laser is a CMM, correct? We just purchased a similar one here at my shop. Except ours is about 30X that size.

Edit: read the above (sorry) guess it isn't. The system looks so much like our CMM its scary LOL. I'll grab a picture sometime.

And still no pictures of the oompha loompha's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I swear those little bastages are like Sasquatch //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
How do you think they get the power to run that thing? They're all on a giant hamster wheel //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So a 22" IB-capable reference driver? Got my attention...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Im more interested in the TC style basket than I am in the 22" subs. Whats going on with that basket? I kind of thought Fi was gonna start using that frame design.... but you guys are clearly still investing in the 12-spoke platform.

Ha! You're about two steps ahead of me. Good for you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I will have to go down there now and hijack it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

count me in

audioholic... investing in the "6 spoke" TC frame, not the "4". The 10" and 12" frames fall under the "4" spoke patent while we now have the "6" spoke. We are currently tooling a 12" with 6 legs. As for the 22" that had been rumored for this style... design is done, but we are holding off a couple of months before we fork over the $$$ for tooling. We want to see how solid of a seller the AA SMD Series in 15" and 18" will be first.

Not everthing needs that much clearance and a good portion of the drivers and designs we have will work well with the good old 12 spoke. Fi wont be using that basket, but AA will. Just trying to push the two lines even further apart.

Jimj... seems more and more interest in some HT stuff. While we definitely will have the IB3 in a 22", we have been playing with the idea of creating more HT specific drivers as well. But it might not under the Fi name. Something about the Fi car audio crowd seems to turn off some of the HT buyers (as well as some of the car audio buyers as well, lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )

I'm still waiting on my 10" basket/sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Very interesting stuff there. I know Bowers & Wilkins uses a lot of the laser stuff on their drivers to do scans of the driver's surface as it is reproducing sound, it definitely helps see what frequencies the cone resonates at and the breakup nodes and frequencies. What I want to see you do is some ultimate SQ drivers, you are definitely capable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
