Centering a port instead of L shaped

I was curious about this , i've been playing around with RE Audio's enclosure calculator and it builds only a end wall L shaped port . How do I take the same calculations from that program and put the port in the center ?

I was thinking that maybe you center the port and make the L shape to each side . say box calculator says port wall goes 15" down from box face plate , then 8" in . that makes the typical L shape . Now center that and make another 8" plate in on the other side . Does that keep the same tuning and how much would it affect internal box volume ?

I was curious about this myself. I know you can do it by making two separate chambers and then making two separte L-shaped ports in the center, but that really eats up box volume. I'm wondering if you can do it without making the two separate chambers. It would still take up more box volume than a traditional end-wall port, but it might be worth it if the output was greater.

say the port is 3" wide in a standard L port configuration, if you do a center port it will remain 3" wide until you turn it toward the sides along the back wall, then each side needs to be 1.5" away as the port area needs to remain the same.

I would put some very small 45's right in the middle of the back piece to help things move along a little better though.

let me see if i understand this correctly . Port is still 3" wide and the L shaped part is either 1.5" from back wall and still 8" long or its only 1.5" long ?
