CDT Ef - 61 vs Crystal SSCS6

Hey guys, i think i have my purchase down to these 2 speakers. (the online option has been opened for me)

CDT Ef - 61 cfi ( 560i Crossover and the tw25 tweeters) at 225 vs Crystal SSCS6 at 160ish (6 1/2)

I have no place around me that i can listen, but i DO here great things about both brands and both speakers.

I look for crisp, warm highs and a good but not muddled bass ( the usual... i listen to Rap and Rock and I love my acoustics very clear)

I plan on amping them with around 100 watts

Is the extra money for the cdts worth it and better fitting for my liking?

Thanks in Advance!

I am strongly considering the crystals for the price differential. So i have enough cash to get a good amp and do copious sound deadening

How much do the Rainbows run?

oh god not another system thrown into the mix! hahaha

Pay no attention to my slightly retarded friend above. His mastery of the english language is lacking.

I love my Crystal SSCS 6. The mid and tweet are very detailed. You will need well deadened doors to get the full midbass output. I flog mine with 150 watts/side and they take it like a champ. I would not hesitate to buy them again.

I've had my set of Crystals installed in the front for about 3 weeks now, and I can tell they're just starting to break in a little more. I don't have my doors deadened at all, and they still sound great....the midbass is very nice, esp. with a 12in sub in the rear and no rearfill speakers.

I ran an older set of Focals before my Crystals, and I would say that the midbass is about the same, however, the Focal TN 45 tweeters are definitely brighter/more 'shrilly' with the high reproduction than the Crystal tweeters. I really grew to like the Focal's more metallic harshness, especially after I played with the settings on my deck to tune them down to a level of my preference.

You can definitely tell that the Crystal tweeters are not silk, but at the same time, they don't have near the harshness at high volumes of a Focal or MB Quart tweet (I owned a set of MB Quart 218.13CX components before the Focals). I really like their sound reporduction.

I'm powering them with 200W RMS a side, and even though I can barely turn the gains up to 1/3 of their adjustment range, the Crystals still really sound good. 3 weeks in, I am very pleased with their performance, and once I break them in a little more, and eventually get around to proper deadening of my doors, I know they'll keep on doing so.

I would definitely buy them again.

Says the man with HD62's (which will run circles around the EF61's). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

I know... But its still good stuff. I ran the EF61's in another car and they performed well within my expectations.

The Crystal is a top tier product... the CDT mentioned is near the bottom of the line.

There is a better set than the Crystals though... Cerwin Vega V-max... I've seen them listed on the net for $150 - $200

bottom of the line? the retail for the speakers i listed the ef-61 cfi's are listed retail about $300 above the crystals ( i know retail price isnt a valid comparison, but it does give an idea)

I have searched other threads and i realized that cdt vs crystal has been a hot topic and has been quite debatable.

I would love some more responses, preferably with those who have tried both, but any input would be awsome!

thanks

- You can't go by price... you don't always get what you pay for... it's my belief that many speakers and speaker lines are overpriced... including CDT, Focal, MB Quart, and Rainbow. Brands like Crystals, Cerwin vega, and many others are sold at more fair prices, typically about half the price of some others... I would compare the Crystals to CDT speakers costing about twice as much. With that said, sound is very subjective and some may feel differently. I bought a set of Focal Utopias about five years ago... but there are a lot more high quality component sets on the market today and better values to be had... today I can buy speakers that sound better than the Focals for about half the price.

A lot of these companies play games with pricing... many people perceive a product has higher value if it costs more.

fixed....

And one of the hardest things to do is get someone that doesn't understand to realize that higher price equals not a superior product.
