CDT comps

Hey guys,

Considering getting CDT HD-62 components and CL-6x for rear fill. On the CDT website it says the HD's are 175 RMS @ 4 ohms so that means total for both sides correct? So like 87.5 RMS each? And the CL's say 80 watt power handling, so that means 40 each? Really want the Soundstream VGA320.4 which is 80x4 @ 4 ohms. Is this enough juice for the components and is it too much for the rears? Is there a way to adjust the gain on the rears?

Is there any other components I should consider with that amp? That are comparible in performance and price?

Thanks

Jordan

The RMS ratings are per side. You don't have to give them that much to get them going though, I turned my gains down quite a bit because they got so loud, and the amp only gives like 130 anyway.

Im going to be using the same combination. Well almost, Im using the EF-51's and the rear fill 6.5's with the Van Gogh 320.4. I haven't hooked anything up yet, but from what I hear this amp has the juice to push the speakers nicely. I figured for the price the 320.4 was going to give me similar results to the 500.4. You'd obviously want to adjust the gains from your HU or on the actual amp itself to turn down the rears.

****, they are 175 RMS for each side?!?! What they heck is their max then? And giving them only 80, isn't this underpowering them? I know Soundstream is kinda underated but the difference is like 95 watts. Seems like I should be bridging this amp and using it just for the fronts just by the numbers, no?

a speakers rms rating is their recommended tops thermal rating by the manufacturer- quality speakers perform best with muc h less power- particularly CDT makes very efficient drivers

Also, I believe the HD's are 2 7/8 deep and supposidely the Acura TL door speakers are only 2" deep and I was told the max you could put in is 2.25" deep or you will hit the window. They say you will need spacers or something. I don't think I understand the concept of spacers. Wouldn't the speakers stick out?

depends on how much space there is between the grille and the speaker itself. some cars simply just cant fit certain speakers without a lot of modification

If they are correct in their numbers, then yes, you would have to use a spacer if you want to keep the speakers mounted in the doors. The spacer would make the speaker stick out further. Alternatively, you can look into getting kicks instead, if it suits you better.

Yeah, I'm thinkin I would probably need 3/4" spacers. I just don't want them to hit the factory grill. And for some reason nobody knows on the Acura forums. They say it should work but I don't want to get these then when I go to install them, they don't clear. Also the guy that I'm getting them from "tplaya07" suggested that I bridge the VGA320.4 for the comps and just run the rears of the HU. What do you guys think of that? I'll probably get the amps from him too. He's good, right?

I'd do what you just mentioned for the amps... You don't want the rear fill to be very loud anyway.

Tplaya has a very good rep here, althought I've never personally been involved with him.
