cda-9887 and ipod

I have a 9887 hu and just bought a new ipod nano 4th gen, it works with the alpine but does not charge, which is very annoying as the ipod will be hooked up to the hu 95 percent of the time. There any way to charge the ipod while connected?

Scosche makes an adapter that will convert the 12 volt to 5 volt to allow you to charge it. I believe Alpine makes it as well. Check out Crutchfield. I believe they have them both there.

Yeah, I've looked into a few different options for myself. I've got a second gen touch. There aren't too many HUs out there that'll charge a second gen touch or a fourth gen nano because they use 5 volts to charge rather than 12 volts. I have an adapter that I got off eBay that lets me control from the iPod instead of from the HU which is much faster, it's a dock connector so I get the same "SQ," and it has a built in converter for charging.

ohh, so I would not be able to control it through the head unit then? Was hoping there was somehow to control it through the head unit and charge it at the same time.

These two will charge an iPod that requires a 5 volt charge. They will let you maintain your head unit control.

This is the Alpine version of the one I have. This lets you use the iPod for control and charges any 5 volt iPod.

All iPods that support 12 volt charging support 5 volt charging too. 5 volt iPods only support 5 volt charging.
