I have a 97 xlt explorer with a pioneer deh-3800 HU, i wired the stock sub to the headunit and i also had a 10" amplified bass tube using the second set of outputs on the head unit. everything has been working fine (been about a year) untill, the bass tube rolled over and yanked on the wires on the tube a bit, (it happened before and didnt have any problems) so i check the connections everything still connected. but then i started hearing a tick tick tick sound when playing a cd, like the cd spinning sound comes out of the woofer(both factory woofer and basstube) , i pulled out the head unit, checked connections, pulled the rca for the tube to see if any difference, the sound wasnt as bad but still there. also when i would turn off power to the head unit, the factory sub would make a pop sound. Both subs make the cd spinning sound and when I plug in the both into the headunit the sound gets worse. also now it doesnt even put out as much bass, sound more like a loud muffled speaker, this is all happening to both the factory sub and bass tube, i didnt mess with anything and dont know how or why this started, any ideas? could the HU be shot?

Pioneer's have always had problems with the grounds on the preouts....mine does this too. You can help the issue by grounding the outter sheath of the rca cables to the frame of the head unit - but this is just a piss poor answer. Just buy a different brand.

IMO the only head unit made by pioneer thats worth a shit is the AVIC's. The rest are junk.

its weird because i never had this problem before unitll now, is there a way to test the head unit? so what brand has good outputs alpine, kenwood?

Alpine, Elcipse and Kenwood have had relitively low instances of this happening, while pioneer has had years of it.

For example, I own a 760mp ... and I have the motor noise thru my subs. I also have a pioneer supertuner III tape deck from like 1991 that I swap out with the exact same connectors...and have zero noise problems. lol. sad shit.

yes the popping sound is from the deck.

Mine does it (p8600) when I turn the deck on, off, turn the volume to 0, and turn the volume to 1, or when i change certain settings w/in the eq or sub controls on the deck.

JANK.

hope that answers your question, it happened to me out of nowhere, and I bet it did to you too.

why would you even bother wiring the factory sub to the deck?and why would you not properly mount the bass tube so it wont roll around and mess up your wires?
I wired the facotry sub before I got a bass tube, and it still sounds pretty good. I do take out the bass tube in the winter for room for ski gear and i forgot to strap it down when i put it back in this spring

ya thats what mine does except for when turning on and did it happened out of nowhere along with the sound of the cd spinning.

it was probably a reverse voltage of some sort into those diodes in the preouts. common problem man....pioneer dont care, they just rack up the profits and make more shitty head units. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif
