I have a JVC that is a few years old. The past couple months it randomly shuts off but restarts on its own as soon as it powers down. It might do it once in 2 weeks, but it might do it 2 times in 10 mins, so I knew it was on its way out. Tonite I was on my way home and it restarted, but this time with no sound from any of the speakers. Has it finally burned the speaker outputs you think? Like I said, I expected something like this soon, but being layed off really puts a strain on what you buy, so Iv been putting it off. Its raining and dark out, so I havnt played with any of it yet.

Also, to be more clear. Its basically like I have it on mute (no noise at all from 0-50) with both radio and cds, only the unit does not have a mute feature. All wires are cremped with butt connectors, then the whole harness taped together to keep the wires together and prevent a birds nest when the unit was shoved into the dash. Thanks for any ideas yall might have!

Update: I started my car 3 times today on the 4th I didn't expect anything but it suddenly started playing! I made it about 5 mins and it shut back off again then came on with no audio. I came home and shoved another jvc deck in that I know works with the same result so it has to be in the wiring. Everything look just as it did when it was installed. No wires are loose or worn at all. I know it works, I'm just not sure of what to do from here?

(soon, i know but...)

Bump: for my music //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

check your ground as well
Yeah, Ill go through everything this evening and see what i can figure out. What I dont understand is that the deck will power on, and even now when it is on, there is no sound. The timer on the deck keeps ticking and you can hear the cd spinning... but, Ill look into everything

one of the speakers might be shorting out causing the deck to go into protect or shut off happens quite often with factory speakers and the cheap cheap aftermarket sets
But, wouldnt it short out, go in protect and stay in protect until the short was taken care of? It might do it 3 times in 5 mins, or go 2 weeks before it finally does it. But until last night it always came right back and started where it left off. Which it does now, just without any sound?

Not always might just reset over and over

Sounds to me like you have a blown door speaker shorting out... Best way to test is to hook just one speaker up to the head unit and see if it does it, if it does test that speaker and if the speakers tests fine it's probably a bad ground or a loose/non-attached face plate. Also if you have an internal amplifier in your vehicle theres a slight chance that could be going. Also make sure when you do the test with one speaker that you test all the channels on your headunit incase it's just one channel shorting out. Also make sure to check the fuse, you never know car audio can be ridiculous.

At any rate if it turns out to be a bad face plate might just want to opt for a new head unit.

Sounds good guys. Ill keep playing with it for a day or two and let yall know what goes on. Thanks for all the ideas, but as of right now, its been working fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
