car amps and component speakers

Kinda a newbie to car audio here guys, so im sure this may be a simple question for the audio vets: Simply put... what type of car amp would work best for component speakers? really unclear on how it works when there is a built in crossover on the amp. how do i compensate for that with the component crossovers? or does it even matter? im gonna run components in the front and coaxial in the rear... yes im fully aware i need a 4 channel, just kinda crossed on how it works with component speakers.. amp has crossovers and so do the components.... dont get it ! what to do???

The crossover on the amp generally will dictate how low the woofer in the comp set is allowed to play. (how much bass/midbass you allow to it) ---->high pass filter (hpf)

The crossover in the comp set will keep the tweeter from playing mid frequencies and bass (hpf) as well as keep the mid from trying to play highs (low pass filter or lpf)

Basically, the amp crossover is between the Subwoofer (if you run them) and midbass driver; and the comp set crossover is between the mid and the tweeter.

Any nice 4 channel amp of adequate power and quality should be fine. Alot of people use the hpf on their HU to control the midbass driver so amp crossovers become virtually useless.

you kinda hit on another question i had.. right now i got an old pos jensen 4 channel amp running my current front and rears... no matter what i do with the lpf or the hpf on the amp.... it makes zero difference. nothing changes... just wondering if the HU is playing a part in that... sony explod HU

Does the amp happen to have a switch on the side that says "LPF, HPF, FULL"; if so, what do u have it set on?

Are you sure its not making any difference? the mids are not playing any lower? could possibly be bad xovers in the amp? or if your HPF on the HU is set at say 100hz and you're playing with the HPF on your amp at or below 100hz, it wont make a difference since the HU is already cutting everything below 100 Hz you might be increasing the slope, but thats about it.
