I replaced 5 year old cones (first gen cones for the 12's) recently with the new black cones. New cones color looks better to me, but I liked the style of the old. New ones are much more stiff. They punch like the L7s, but take a lot more break in before getting low than the old ones. Also, new ones are a tighter fit than the old for some reason. Apparently Kicker tightened up their tolerances

If you decide to go on a limb and buy one, I've got 3 of the old cones sitting around, I'll straight trade you for a black, just so I have a matching spair.
