capping on caps

let me start with that i know u all know way more about car audio than i do and ever will. i c alot of u say caps do nothing. so i found out 4 myself. without one my lights would dim. with one they didnt?
you are running low wattage, or have other issues with charging

It's not that they won't do something, they will, but they require time to charge and recharge. It's not ideal if you're runnnig a bit of power because you can get a battery and it will help much more. People tend to say it's not worth it because it won't do anything, which isn't necessarily true..like i said, it will do something but the cost to benefit ratio is very low compared to buying a battery or an HO alternator.

exactly right, the cost of a cap is in a lot of cases more than a good battery that will stabilize the voltage to your amps much more effectively. There is a good analogy using compressed air that fits this perfectly.

but you're not going to tell?

You know, Martin Luther King once said... something that I wont repeat here because he said it not me. But Im sure you all can see the man's point and are the better for me mentioning it. You're welcome.

Caps do nothing IF you've already upgraded areas I consider more vital anyway. This is in the context of your stereo system. If you want to discuss headlight issues, that's another forum entirely.

notice only the trough between 2 and 3 is gone, but voltage still drops to battery voltage, and that is when the lights dimm.

the issue IMO is that the regulator on your alternator can not react fast enough...someone should invent a way to send the audio signal to the regulator, such that the regulator can react at the same time as the drop occurs:eek:
