Capasitors anyone?? Are they worth buyin?

Laff
Seriously, maybe because I am real picky when it comes to listening to music, but I can definately tell a difference btwn cap/ no cap. (On a 1,000 wrms memphis amp.

What happens is the first bass hit on a song will be strong, but the following ones decrease in loudness, b/c I guess the voltage drops fast. Hook up a cap, and they stay pretty much the same loudness....They do not, however, make the system any louder per say.

I think the rule of thumb is 1 farad per 1,000 wrms. And get a good brand like stinger...You will pay about $100 per farad.

Never tried an extra battery, but to me it should be a little better maybe?
second battery right next to your amp will be infinitely better than a cap, and what does a yellow top cost like 100 bucks? or a smaller stinger batt like the spv35 or whatever, like 50 bucks?

I am not doubting you, because you sound like you have experience, which I do not, but in what ways are a battery better than a cap?On 1000 watts the 1 farad stingers seem to keep the voltage above 13.5 in my old Silverado
Do you know how a capacitor works? Its only good for momentary bursts of power, as that is what it is a small reserve of energy. One good thing about them is they can release this power extremely quickly (but still only for a split second). If this is your motivation, get a batcap, even one of the smaller ones will likely do you much better than any capacitor.

A battery stores a much larger reserve of energy, and can continue to produce this energy even after significant amounts of it have been depleted.

Extra battery instead...
x2

A small bat-cap or battery will yield much better results, in terms of electrical, and will cost about the same. However, some people claim that Caps filter the "Ripple", and make the output clearer by leveling out the peaks, and filling in the valleys. However, even if it does, it's not audible enough for the human ear to pick up.

Let's speak in terms of numbers...

To hold an average AA battery in a capacitor, you'd need roughly 10,080 farads.

Need I explain more?

i had a cap at one time....i only used it cuz it lit up cool behind my back seat //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif lol i took that shit off real quick though. now im runnin the big three with 1/0 knukonceptz wiring and a yellow top optima.....i have a 2001 sierra and im not sure about your year but mine had an option for a 130amp alternator so i got it its worth it if it will fit on your truck

Why are you asking? Are you currently having a problem? Are you about to increase the size of your system? What is your current setup and electrical?
What if your running a diesel truck with two batteries already. Would you think that you need a cap?

I wonder how many times this question has been asked? I would say at least once a month.

Caps really have no purpose. They can look pretty. If you are running power to the point that you need one, get an extra battery.
