CAPACITOR Questions

Hey fellow audio enthusiasts.. I have a simple question that i'd hoped someone could assist me in answering.. I have a Capicitor however I need a little advice on preparing the device for installation.. My questions are as follows. How does one go about charging a capacitor for use, I knoiw that there is some sort of regulating device that you must use while you charge it? I was wondering if someone could supply me with step by step instructions on procedures for installing Cappacitors..

Your cap should've come with some sort of instructions.

Note - I've never charged a cap that I've had to install. I plug and play. Not a single problem out of a dozen or so times of having to install / re-install one.

Yes I checked out this site and It is very usefull in regards to the question of how exactly the installation process is suposed to go.. However it does not answer whether or not you are supposed to charge the capacitor before you install it...

Though it did mention somthing about a capacitor drawing power from a DC scource untill it is full.. This would lead you to believe that alll you have to do is install the Unit and it would charge itself... This came as a srprise because i have been told by multiple scouirces that you should charge the unit before you hook it up... Anyone else have input on this subject??

Some caps come with a resistor, u hook up the ground wire and then hook one end of the resistor to the positive terminal on the cap and the other end to the power wire. This charges the cap slowly and suppose to keep the cap from sparking when u hook up the power wire to the cap. If u have a voltmeter u wait until the cap is charged about half way or 6 volts, then take the resistor off and hook the power wire to it. That what the instructions told me what to do, but the next day I asked someone at a stereo shop if I had to do this and they said no.
