Capacitor question

I am going to switch out my amp with a new one because I believe one of the channels are dying. My question is, I have a capacitor and I was curious if I disconnect the battery, will my cap lose its charge? The reason I ask is because when I did disconnect the battery, the cap began a count down sequence from the charge it had so I connected the battery back right away. If it doesn't lose its charge, how long do I have before it will? Appreciate any and all suggestions
