Capacitor or no capacitor

I recently upgrade the alternator to the biggest amperage they have for my vehicle, upgraded the battery and updated wiring from the alternator to the battery. I still get headlight dimming when the volume is set to 30 on my kenwood Excelon DNX6990HD. I was told that a capacitor would fix the problem. And I also heard the a capacitor is bad for a system. Anyone have any opinions about this? Should I get a capacitor? Or should I stay away from a capacitor? any help would be appreciated.

Capacitors won't fix that. Ultracapacitor bank? Yes.

Standard headlights are very sensitive to voltage changes. Good HID kits will fix minor dimming

Neither one of those will completely get rid of headlight dimming

it got rid of my headlight dimming... really fixed my voltage drop.

most of the times with headlight dimming, just grab an HID kit. If its your interior lights and dash dimming, that's a much bigger problem.

i agree with you on the whole "completely" part but my system was dropping so hard. when i did that it fixed it.

Of what I know, you need the big 3 and an extra battery in the back. No Capacitors.

OP, do NOT get a cap, huge waste of money. Do a complete big 3, throw a second battery in the trunk, and if the headlight dimming a tiny bit bothers you get a HID set. ddmtuning.com has some good sets.

what year make model. when you say upgraded wire from alt to bat what size? who is the they you speak of when you bought your alt. whats the specs on that? What is the setup you are running? Stock bat? Whether or not you need a cap is a heated argument on this forum. IMO they have a proper time and place in vehicles.

I added a second battery and volts dont drop below 13.5 but inside lights dim when the doors are open. But headlights dont. Go figure.
