Capacitor help!!

hey i just got a capacitor because my car is only a 4 cylinder and my system seems to be putting a strain on my alternator.. is it true that it will prevent my alternator from going bad? also, can i just connect my ground from the amp to the cap and then to the chassis ground of vehicle (combining both grounds together)? & hows the best way to charge this thing

Lets see how long some of you aholes can go without saying something bad or calling him a name for owing a capacitor. Do NOT turn this into one of those threads, let this be over with quickly.

Its because a capacitor stores energy and doesnt make its own. It draws from the battery and alt. Its use is to release its stored energy instantaneously during the high draw moments. Your best bet is to get a new battery- like everyone else will say on here (because in most cases its true). So no, the cap itself generally wont protect the alternator from going bad. It will ease it during high draw for very short periods of time- the time it takes to release its stored energy.

You can connect them how you want but Id say follow the diagram below:

Just visually replace the batcap with your capacitor.

Btw a batcap is pretty much a battery that can release as fast as a capacitor.

What equipment do you have and how big is your alt? And did I read this right, someone told you by adding a cap your alt won't die?

if you don't have one yet don't get one.. they are bad news.. I will try and end this for you as least painfully as possible.. if you bought the cap new and still have time to return it.. Do it.. what kind of system do you have also.. Amps/subs/speakers etc etc

i have 2 12'' Cvr's & a kicker zx750.1 (750 rms).. idk the size of my alt? i have an 06 toyota corolla.. i figured a capacitor would help my alternator by not stressing it because my friends died by his system
