Capacitor help gain 2-3 dB?

After comp yesturday I asked what I could do to get my current system louder, and he said a cap would add 2-3 dB. Thats the only thing he said I could do to improve SPL, besides movin my box to different possisions. So is this cap thing for real, cuz I always thought caps didnt really help at all. And my battery is bad, and my alt is too.

lmao not even bumping your voltage up to 18 v would give you that kind of gain in most likely hood

ahahahaha a guy with 2 RE 8s was louder than you with a 139.x //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

if u want to really inprove a new box, bigger with a higher tuning should help some, duct tape, 45s, loseing ur inline fuse(under hood) , bigger power/ground wire, Big 3..

all i can come up with off the top of my head

45s?? losening the inline fuse???
45s are the lil angles pieces u put in the corners to help round out the inside of the box, helps air flow.

Taking out my inline fuse gained me .6db //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif , kinda hard to pull all that current through such a small piece of metal.

And i listed most of this as for competition only, i wouldnt reconmend DD with out the fuse, but for a 3sec burp he will be fine... unless his amp is crap.

The part I've bold-typed is what troubles me about the original post.

If you know these two items are problematic wouldn't it make more sense to address those issues first (as they are real problems and need addressing) rather than attempting to put a band-aid on a broken leg with a capacitor?

If you've not upgraded your "Big 3" then I would suggest doing so. See the stickied tutorial about it if you're not certain of the process. Easy to follow step-by-step is there for your use. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Following that a higher CCA-rating battery could certainly help and an HO alternator if your current unit isn't up to the task of supplying current to both your vehicle plus whatever you've added to it that requires energy.

If your charging system isn't up to snuff then adding a capacitor would most likely exacerbate the problem rather than help it.

isnt he in the idaho kkk?
and arent you in indiana? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

caps are baaad mkaaay?

do the big 3 (as said)

look into a new and higher output alternator (hopefully over 120 amps at idle 1000rpm~2000rpm

and ONLY durring competitions, take out that fuse.

also, build a new box.
