cant decide if $1383 is worth it

I would like to know what you are spending 5 grand on. Sounds like fun.
Oh boy... it looks like fun now that we know what all it is.

0 gauge wiring? Ok... um, that may be overkill. 4 gauge is seriously thicker than 90% of the crimping componets and just other miscellaneous stuff most people use. 0 gauge... I could see it for a grounding cable, but otherwise, thats too much.

4 sets of Rainbow components is an absolutely atrocious idea:mad: Im not sure if you missed it or not, but in the past few days we had a massive thread that turned into a flame war. Pimpedout97x(sp?) and Platestacker(sp?) were running several sets of eminence drivers, and we explained how bad of an idea it was. You're going to run into a ton of linear distortion.

If you want to go loud do it right! Get some horns (BMS 4540ND are nice) cross sharply around 1000-1200hz to a pair of B&C 8NDL51s and cross high around 80-100hz (limiting displacement demand on the 8s) to your substage. If horns dont tickle your fancy then you can get the 8NDL51s (Dayton RS270S would be a good option if you could fit them) cross them around 400hz (actually anywhere between 300-600hz, whatever works out better in your car) to a pair of Audax PR170M0s. You'd then cross your Audax quite high to a pair of ribbon tweeters (Aurum Cantus G2 or Fountek NeoCD2.0 would be great).

It would get loud as balls and possess insane dynamics, but still sound great!

i was looking at some image dynamic horns earlier..i'll check it out..although i never had a problem with my past system that had 4 sets of jl 3 way xr series 1 for each door

I wouldnt go for horns unless you NEED balls to the walls sound. The horn bodies that are designed for the car are severely compromised due to their nature, in the home this isnt such a problem since exotic shapes arent necessary a problem.

I would recommend the B&C 8NDL51 + Audax PR170M0 + Fountek Neo CD2.0

Ignorance is bliss. If you were content with your 4 sets of other mids, then you just arent aware of what is possible and achievable:D

to danali guy,

4 sets of 3 ways? = no.

stores can mess you around bad on warrenty, you end up waiting months for them to take care of things.

i would reconsider your whole install. you only need kick *** sound up front (unless you are a cab driver with a really big heart?)

1 set of killer comps (horns?) up front, badass sub or 2, and good amps = done

easy to do for $5000.

id reccommend finding a forum member you like/respect locally, work with them to buy good equpiment on the forums/ebay, and have them install it for you.

$4000 in equipment and $1000 for the helper and materials = killer sounds that will last because its been installed / designed / set up, correctly.

my sujjestion would be 2 x 15" (sealed) 3000 wrms on the subs and a very solid front end.(prolly horns and an 8" midbass in the front doors / kicks?)

just my .2 cents.

pity to drop $5000 and have nada but problems.

All of your advice is completely subjective and fully opionated. I mean there's ALOT of ways to go about getting alot of sound, this is the route he choses.

Wow, way to add nothing to the thread. The route he is choosing will destroy maximum SPL and ruin the SQ, not a very efficient way of spending money.

Same to you buddy. He's still gonna spend the money. Look at what he's buying. I agree that it won't sound the best and isn't the best for spl or sq, but it's what HE wants.

I've actually given him specific advice

The purpose of this forum is to inform and educate. If he hasn't spent the money already, why not help him achieve a better system for less money?

Any speaker you put into a car is going to be compromised due to it's environment. Lots of horn cars have won SQ championships, they really aren't at any disadvantage vs a setup with conventional drivers. After all, why put ribbons in a car when your top octave is going to disappear due to reflections and background noise?

Your joking right? If not most respectable 1/0 awg kits do not use crimps. Either way with 1/0 awg you will be cool so do not go 4 guage.

may i ask why you say this?
Cancellation and the off axis response he'll be forced to utitilize with that many drivers will probably yeild less SPL than properly positioned drivers in optimal enlosures. You can't simply add extra midrange and treble producing speakers and get the same result as you do by adding extra subs, due to the wavelengths involved, more is not always better.
