Head Unit Equalizers

Ive been told equalizers in aftermarket headunits are basically useless and can make you mids/high's sound bad. Ive been told to ALWAYS leave the equalizer with all the levels at ZERO for best sound. Is this true? and does it affect the Lows the same way?

I like having as much bass as possible and wanted to increase the Low frequencies in the equalizers.

I have Focals for mids/highs and 10w7 for lows.

Internal EQ's are just fine. Todays modern EQ has more than enough bands to make a considerable difference in sound vs all flat especially the midrange, where you dont want it flat unless you listen to talk radio.

For the lows, you will notice more output if you turn up the bass, makes sense //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Im guessing whoever told you this is either old and or stupid.

headunit eqs are fine, just remember any boosting of frequencies can make your amp clip sooner, so you MIGHT have to turn your amp gain down a tad

Isnt turning down ur amp gains kind of defeating the purpose of turning up the equalizer?

Not at all. Your looking for a different sound by using head unit eq. Clear highs, more midbass ect... you don't turn your gains up or down to create this. If your boosting your desired frequencies on your eq. it is wise to turn your gains down a tad. You will get the desired sound without going into clipping. I have done this with my system. You can turn it up worrie free that way. Don't worrie your system will still be mighty loud.

EQ's are NOT a volume knob. You use the eq to tweak how something sounds at a given volume, by making certain parts quieter or louder than others (usually you want to make other parts quieter).
