cans omeone explain this?

im pretty sure there is a factory plug some where in the the trunk that plugs in to that.
i think you're thinking of the newer bmw's that actually have an ipod-compatible usb hookup

this thing's for factory radios all the way back to 98

no i was not

the ones iv done it was in the trunk where the changer, etc is located. that piece works with older cars too..

 
from my experience installing past similar models...

the white plug will plug into the unit itself, and so does the black wire with ipod plug on it. Then you plug the other end of the white plug into cd changer wiring(in trunk) or remove existing cd changer if you have one and plug wires into the where the cd changer hooked up before. Then set the dip switches to correct combination for your car and run the ipod wire up to wehrever you want to plug the ipod in and you should be good to go. Hope this helps
